Eclipse

The deity Ma’at, in winged form on the side of the Temple of Sobek, Egypt.

My daughter Stella told me about an astrological podcast that explained the significance of the March 29th solar eclipse. Eclipses are always powerful transformational times, and although I don’t understand astrology as well as she does, the idea that what I have been feeling as the destruction of America is a wakeup call for us to look at our values and is a burning away of what is out of alignment, rang true. I found a You Tube video by Heather Ensworth, Ph.D. with her take on the eclipse. Her insights calmed the distress I have been feeling. I don’t want to enter the dis-ease & traumatic energy of this dismantling of America, yet I have been feeling my own trauma from enactments of bolder racism, abuse of people of color & women, & the pain of enslavement. Ensworth said that the “foundational identity of this nation is tied up with wounds that are the root of this country. Europeans left England because they were living under a tyrannical monarchy and came here as powerless victims.” Rather than feeling gratitude and healing from their freedom, they continued the pattern of abuse, stealing land & resources from First Nations people, becoming murderous perpetrators like the people they had fled.

“The wounding is coming to a reckoning. Uranus squaring the moon is call for us to return to our hearts & live in justice, truth, authenticity, equality & collaboration. We have 6000 years of patriarchy to overcome,” said Ensworth.

Those who are living in the depth of their wounds have no vision to accept this transformation, but those of us who understand ancient wisdom do.

Ensworth spoke beautifully of returning to sacred feminine wisdom. Ma’at is a goddess of ancient Egypt whose principles are truth, justice, harmony, balance, order, propriety, and reciprocity. She represents the crucial concept of how the universe is maintained. Ancient Egyptians believed the universe had an order to it, and it was Ma’at who kept everything in balance. This helped ancient Egyptians develop a strong sense of morality and justice. I have shared with friends that I have been listening to spa music in my car to calm me…now I claim my own inner balance knowing that how I have been living for years – from my heart, making right actions, seeking right knowing, living with empathy – is the answer to this tumultuous time.

There is a soul beneath the soil of this country; a soul that was here eons before Europeans arrived. I pray this upheaval & burning of America will release the ancient breath.
